Over 70% of US officials use social networks and blogs

According to the new research a great part of the US state offices use social network services in their everyday work. However commercial organizations still are at the first place in this field. Well it is quite possible as there are a lot of security matters around the state offices.

The research being held by the Human Capital Institute and Saba companies revealed that about 70% of all US state offices use various social networks with an aim to solve their problems. Furthermore over 65% of them apply more then one similar service.

It is obvious that the most popular thing among the governmental organizations is the groups and accounts creating within this or that network. 32% of all state offices correspond here. Another 31% is given to blogs and wiki-sites. And the third place is taken by the various forums, chats or instant messages services.

The statistics provided by researchers says that social online tools today are more popular in commercial sector of the economy than in state one. Only 15% of the privately owned companies do not use social networks. Considering the state offices this number increases up to 29%.

Furthermore there is nothing surprising that first three place among most visited social networks is given to Facebook, LinkeIn and Twitter. On the other hand the state offices place a great emphasis to their own sources containing similar functions. Bobby Yazdani - the executive director in Saba said "Mutual online work tools as well as social networks technologies swiftly turn from users to private and state organizations."

Here is chart of the internet activities. Red lines are the governmental indices and the blue ones are those related to corporate sector.

Considering his speech we may conclude that probably the main obstacle of social networks distribution within state offices is security matters. Especially this relates to various organizations that are to keep certain part of the information in secret. The head of the Saba continued: "We were quite surprised when revealed that about 70% of the state organizations use at least one of the internet social tools". But we can see that the commercial sector is still on the first place in using social networks. Commonly the privately owned companies apply social networks with an aim to improve their services.

Finally I need to mention the words of the research authors. They say that organizations participated in the survey apply social tools for solving various tasks including those concerning their staff training and mass-media communication. So it is quite complicated to state that any internet activity throughout the workday is bad one. How it is possible to sort out such traffic? And is it necessary at all?
